1. Which is your favorite portrait photo that you took? Why?

My favorite portrait photo that I took was the split lighting photo. I really liked how I was able to display one side of his face in the light and the other side in complete darkness. It makes a symmetrical look and adds a lot to the photo.

2. Which of these lighting techniques do you think you can apply for future picture taking? Explain.

I can definitely see myself implementing the split lighting technique for future picture taking. It is a more simple photo however it adds a lot and it is very unique.

Motion

1/320 sec, f/7.1, ISO 200
1/250 sec, f/6.3, ISO 200
>1024 sec, f/11, ISO 100

Some advice I would give to other photographers looking to take motion pictures is to take lots of pictures of the same shot. Since these pictures are in motion, it is difficult to get a perfect shot. Taking lots of pictures allows you to get different angles and perspectives of the same shot giving more options.

Kings of Portugal

  1. I hope that my image shows my perspective about Ronaldo. I combined the famous Portuguese soccer player, Ronaldo, with the King of Portugal, Don Sebastian. This shows how important Ronaldo is as he is compared to a king. He is the king of soccer similar to how Sebastian was the king of Portugal.
  2. Some advice I would give is to zoom in in order to blend the face well. The more you zoom in on the picture, the more detailed you can blend the face in making the picture look better.

Oil and Water

Oil and Water Questions:

  1. The mood of my oil and water photo is hope and peace. The colors shown in my photo have all of the colors of the rainbow, and a rainbow symbolizes hope and peacefulness which is the mood shown through the colors in my photo.
  2. This photo makes me think about life. The colors are arranged in a circle which is similar to the cycle of life. The lighter colors represent the happier times in our life and the darker colors represent the harder times in life.
  3. What jumps out to me in this photo is the mix of different colors. They blend together in a way that enhances the beauty of the photo. Sometimes mixed colors turn out ugly, however the mixed colors make a perfect blend.
  4. This photo makes me feel calm and peaceful. The colorful colors as well as the bubbles on the top make a perfect blend. The abstract yet unified colors are satisfying and it makes the photo calming to look at.
  5. For next year’s students, I recommend that you experiment with lots of different colors. Using different colors makes the photo more abstract and it can make a unique photo. Abstract can make unified pictures that are calming and beautiful.

Beauty of Food

This photo was taken on the Oratory Prep soccer field.

This was taken at my house.

Reflection Questions:

  1. For the first photo, I picked the bubble gum because Jack was very good at blowing bubbles with this gum. It allowed me to take a unique and it required that I took the picture at the perfect time so that the bubble would not pop. For the second photo, I picked a strawberry because my dog loves eating strawberries and the bright red color of the strawberry grabs the attentions of the photo as that is what the dog is looking at.
  2. As for the first photo, the primary lighting was the sun as I was outside when I took the photo. For the second photo, it was taken in my house with both artificial lighting and the sun coming from the window. In both of my photos, they were taken in the morning which allowed there to be natural sunlight involved in both of the photos.
  3. The composition technique used in the first photo is the rule of thirds. The bubble gum is place in the bottom third which captures the attention of the photo. The composition technique used is fill the frame. I edited the image and got close up so that the focus of the image would be primarily the dog’s expression and want for the strawberry.
  4. The color splash effect in both photos had a large impact on the photos. For the first picture, the color splash was used on the bubble gum. I did this because the color contrast between the bubble gum and the sky allowed for a unique photo. For the second photo, the color splash was used o the strawberry. This was because I wanted to light up the strawberry to show how badly my dog wanted to eat it as shown in his facial expression.
  5. Of the several different techniques that could have been used, I liked experimenting with the exposure. In the first photo, I zoomed in on the photo to get a close up and I lowered the saturation to 0 which allowed to leave the background in the photo black and white which highlighted the bubble gum. For the second photo, I zoomed in using my phone camera and also put the saturation to 0 so the strawberry would be the highlight of the photo.
  6. For next year’s students shooting food portraits, I would say that you want the food to be the main focus of the picture. For my photos, I made the foods very bright which highlighted them. This allowed the person looking at the picture to be captured by the bright food compared to the bland background.

  1. In my work, I have several different strengths and weaknesses. As for my strengths, I am good at finding different elements of art to take pictures of. I am creative and can find different things outside that would make a good picture. As for weaknesses, I am still learning how to use photoshop and I would like to use it more to enhance my pictures.
  2. In future projects, I would like to change the zoom on my camera to capture different perspectives and and angles of a photo. Furthermore, I want to get better with photoshop. This can be done by cropping my images more or changing the colors within the photo.
  3. One picture I enjoy that shows emotion is the picture of the pink flower. The color shown in that photo shows the beauty of nature. I intended to convey the feelings of admiration and happiness when seeing the pink flower.
  4. One elements of art I would like to explore more is texture. A good photograph can show what the texture feels like without actually feeling it. I think this is very unique and challenges the photographer to take quality photos.
  5. In my next project, I want to experiment more with photoshop. I want to use photoshop to brighten colors and enhance the photo as a whole. I also want to experiment with the camera more in order to take photos with different angles and zooms.

The Life Outside

I took this picture near the field towards DaGaeta.
I took this picture in front of the school.
I took this picture on the field.
  1. The thing I enjoyed most about the first photography project was the creativity I was able to have. I was allowed to take a picture of anything I wanted and it allowed me to be more creative. I also enjoyed how we got to go outside into nature instead of being in a classroom.
  2. The biggest challenge was correctly focusing the camera as well as choosing how zoomed in I wanted to be. At first I did not know how to correctly zoom in which caused blurry and unclear photos. I also had some challenges correctly naming my files after taking them.
  3. On the next photo shoot, I will be able to take better pictures with the correct zoom and focus. Along with that, uploading the pictures will be much easier. I now know how to name my pictures correctly as well.
